Presidential Campaigns don’t speak Spanish . . . yet

Monday, June 11th, 2007

If the New York Times says it, then it must be true.

Last week, Raymond Hernadez wrote about the battle for Hispanic voters in the 2008 presidential race.

Hernandez quotes Sergio Bendixen, a Democratic pollster working for the Clinton campaign, who said

The Hispanic vote has never been all that important in the presidential primary process in the United States. But that will change in 2008.

Will it?

We decided to take a look at the websites of the major Democratic and Republican candidates to see how many of them have websites in Spanish.

We found that of the top 16 presidential candidates, only three (John Edwards, Barak Obama, and Bill Richardson, in alphabetical order) actually had websites in Spanish.

Of those three, only two (Obama and Richardson) placed a link to the Spanish versions of the websites at the top of their homepages.
